CONSUL GENERAL B. MUNKHBAATAR MEETS WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE TANG CENTER
On September 8, 2025, Consul General B. Munkhbaatar met with Dr. Sanjyot Mehendale, archaeologist and head of the “TANG” Center for Silk Road Studies at the Institute of East Asian Studies, University of California, Berkeley, as well as Karen L. Clancy, Director of Development and Public Affairs.
During the meeting, the parties discussed future collaboration opportunities, including teacher exchange programs. They exchanged views on enabling Mongolian educators to gain experience in the United States and jointly develop educational curricula.
The TANG Center is an academic institution that supports international research and scholarly work on the history, culture, science, and exchanges along the Silk Road. Through research, lectures, conferences, and fellowships, the Center aims to promote public and academic knowledge of the Silk Road.
The TANG Center’s “Silk Road Summer Research Program” was first partially held in Mongolia in 2018. The program is scheduled to take place again in 2025, during which the Consul General visited and became acquainted with its activities.
This program is specifically designed for American teachers of history and social sciences and covers topics such as Central Asian history, Silk Road culture, archaeology, and ancient manuscripts. It is distinguished by its hands-on approach, where participants develop curriculum and teaching methodologies while engaging directly in field research.
