MONGOLIA AND THE BAY AREA DISCUSS BUSINESS AND INNOVATION COOPERATION

Consul General of Mongolia in San Francisco Soyolmaa Jambaldorj met with Alex Foard, Vice President for Global Programs at the Bay Area Council, on September 9, 2026.

Founded in 1945, the Bay Area Council (https://www.bayareacouncil.org/) representing more than 375 of the region’s largest employers, the Council conducts research, advances public policy, and convenes stakeholders on economic development, technology, housing, transportation, workforce development, water, energy, climate, and global business and investment.

At the outset, Consul General Jambaldorj expressed appreciation for the positive and constructive relationship established over the years between the Consulate General of Mongolia and the Bay Area Council. She thanked the Council for its previous engagement with the Consulate General and noted her interest in building on this foundation through practical cooperation in business, technology, investment, education, and sustainable development.

The two sides exchanged views on opportunities to expand economic and business ties between Mongolia, California, and the San Francisco Bay Area. They discussed potential cooperation in information technology, artificial intelligence, digital governance, renewable energy, energy storage, critical minerals, responsible mining, sustainable agriculture, value-added products including cashmere, tourism, education, and workforce development.

They also discussed opportunities to connect Mongolian companies and startups with Bay Area Council member companies, investors, technology accelerators, universities, and research institutions. Possible initiatives included a virtual briefing and a business roundtable presenting Mongolia’s business and investment opportunities.

The meeting further explored ways to establish connections with Bay Area organizations and companies working in clean energy, climate technology, water management, and sustainable agriculture; support reciprocal business and innovation delegations; and facilitate the participation of Mongolian entrepreneurs in relevant events and professional networks.

The Consulate General expressed its readiness to serve as a bridge between Mongolia and Bay Area companies, investors, universities, and civil society organizations. Both sides expressed interest in maintaining regular communication and continuing to explore concrete initiatives for future cooperation.
