MONGOLIA TO STRENGTHEN TIES WITH VIETNAM

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 8, Monday, President Ts.Elbegdorj received Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Ms Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh who arrived in Mongolia on May 7 on an of¬ficial visit.
Welcoming the Vice President into the country, the President appreciated how the visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to Mongolia on the oc¬casion of the 11th ASEM Summit last year helped strengthen bilateral ties which con¬tinue to grow stronger.
Conveying the greetings of the Presi¬dent of Vietnam, the Vice President re¬marked on the friendly relations between the two countries, the foundations of which were laid by Yu.Tsedenbal and Ho Chi Minh. “I am confident that this visit will facilitate continuation of existing negotia¬tions and agreements and activate more cooperation in the future”, she said.
The Vice President mentioned about her meeting with Prime Minister J.Erdenebat earlier in the day, expressing Vietnam’s intentions to export agricultural products, rice, sugar and sea products to Mongolia, and import mining and meat products from Mongolia. “We wish to co¬operate with Mongolia on oil sector and intensify bilateral cooperation in culture, education and tourism”, she said.
On behalf of the President of Viet¬nam, the Vice President invited President Ts.Elbegdorj to revisit Vietnam at his con¬venience. President Ts.Elbegdorj visited Vietnam in November, 2013. “Mutual high level visits are regularizing between Viet¬nam and Mongolia”, she noted.
Sides exchanged views on bilateral re¬lations and opportunities for cooperation during the meeting.

PRESIDENTIAL CAN¬DIDATES TO BE AN¬NOUNCED BY MAY 17


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Political parties’ candidates for June 26 Presiden¬tial election will be announced nationwide by May 17, reported General Election Commission.
There are three political parties with seats in Parliament and eligible to nomi¬nate a presidential candidate which are ruling Mongolian People’s Party (MPP), Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP) and Democratic Party (DP).
In compliance with relevant laws and regulations, the parties have an¬nounced their candidates - Chairman of MPP M.Enkhbold, Chairman of MPRP N.Enkhbayar and Kh.Battulga represent¬ing DP.
After scrutinizing the documents of the presidential nominees, General Elec¬tion Commission will decide on whether to approve the candidates or not; if General Election Commission has objections to candidate nomination by a party, the party can nominate a different candidate.

MPS PAY VISIT TO CANA¬DA

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Parliamen¬tary delegation, composed of Mongolia and Canada parliamentary group Head MP B.Saranchimeg, MP Z.Narantuya and Chairwoman of Foreign Relations Depart¬ment of Parliament Office Sh.Narantuya visited Canada on May 1-5.
The delegation met with Speaker of House of Commons Geoff Regan, Chair¬man of Canada-Mongolia Friendship Group in the Canadian Parliament Senator Joseph Day and members of the group, Chair of Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities of House of Commons Brian May, Vice Chair Brigitte Sansoucy and Director General of North Asia and Oceania at Global Affairs Canada Sarah Taylor and other officials, exchanging views on partnership relations and cooperation of the two countries.
During the meetings, MPs expressed their gratitude to Canada, one of third neighbors of Mongolia, for supporting Mongolian democracy, human rights and development and noted the Mongolian Parliament is for strengthening inter-par¬liamentary cooperation further. The del¬egates also met with MPs of Ontario prov¬ince, in Toronto city, visiting the provincial parliament.
The visit was a part of realization of co¬operation agreement between Parliament Offices of the two countries, established in 2016.

JUSTICE MINISTER PAY¬ING WORKING VISIT TO CHINA

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Member of Parliament and Minister of Justice and Home Affairs S.Byambatsogt is paying a working visit to the People’s Republic of China on May 8-12. Within the visit, an ac¬tion plan of cooperation in 2017-2021 be¬tween the Minister of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia and Ministry of Public Security of China was signed.
Minister S.Byambatsogt met with member of Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee and Secretary of Cen¬tral Political and Legal Affairs Commission MengJianzhu. Minister S.Byambatsogt highlighted the bilateral relations of Mon¬golia and China, which has 68 years of history, have been actively developing not only in political and economic spheres, but also in law enforcement sector.
The parties underlined the significant role of justice and internal affairs in the bi¬lateral cooperation, which reached a com¬prehensive strategic partnership level and expressed their confidence that the great result will be yielded by the visit of Minister of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia, after six years. They also agreed to inten¬sify cooperation of law enforcement insti¬tutions of Mongolia, China and Russia, when the relationship of the three coun¬tries is currently widening and to create a joint mechanism to collaborate in the fight against cross-border organized crimes, including drugs and human trafficking and money laundering.

MONGOLIA-VIETNAM BUSINESS MEETING TAKES PLACE

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In scope of the official visit of Ms Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Mongolia, a Mon¬golia-Vietnam Business Meeting was co-organized by the Embassy of Vietnam, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and In¬dustry and Mongolian Employers’ Fed¬eration today, May 9 at Tuushin Hotel in Ulaanbaatar.
Honorary guests including the Vice President, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, Vietnamese Am¬bassador to Mongolia Phan Dang Duong, Deputy Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg and Vice President of Mongolian Employers’ Federation Kh.Ganbaatar were in atten¬dance alongside representatives of busi¬nesses. More than 40 Mongolian businesses and over 20 Vietnamese businesses in food, agriculture, light industry, leather industry, drug manufacturing and real es¬tate partook in the meeting which covered government policies on trade and invest¬ment, surrounding legal environment and measures taken to boost business.
Customs data from Vietnam shows USD 58 million bilateral trade overturn, with Mongolia importing rice, sugar, canned food and telecommunications equipment worth USD 40 million. Since 1990, 164 Vietnamese entities made in¬vestment of USD 32.9 million in Mongolia. Mongolia and Vietnam have established over 20 bilateral agreements in trade, economy and education. Businesses at the meeting agreed on potential oppor¬tunities for cooperation in oil, mining and food sectors.
Mongolia-Vietnam Business Meeting was first held in 2013 during President Ts.Elbegdorj’s visit to Vietnam and in 2016 during Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit to Mongolia. This year, Mongolian-Viet¬namese intergovernmental commission meeting will also take place.

WORLD WAR II HEROES HONORED ON THE OCCA¬SION OF VICTORY DAY


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Today, May 09, ceremonies to pay respect to the heroes of the war were held at the Monu¬ment of Soviet Soldiers on the Zaisan Hill and the Monument of Marshal of the Soviet Union G.K.Zhukov in Ulaanbaatar dedicated to the 72th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Representatives from the Ministry of Defense, General Staff of the Armed Forc¬es and Embassies of Russian Federation, Belarus and Kazakhstan in Mongolia and Mongolian and Russian citizens took part in the ceremonies.
Students of the Russian High School named after Yuri Gagarin performed a concert and a mini-photo exhibition of Russian soldiers, who had fought in the war, was displayed at the Zhukov Square. Moreover, Russian people present at the ceremonies were holding portraits of their parents, grandparents, relatives-soldiers in the war.
Mongolia shares the victory in the Great Patriotic War, backing the former Soviet Union by supplying horses and other necessary items and marks the vic¬tory every year.

DEPUTY FOREIGN MIN¬ISTER B.BATTSETSEG MEETS HER TURKISH COUNTERPART

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 8, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia B.Battsetseg received Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Am¬bassador Ahmet Yıldız, who is paying a visit to Mongolia on May 6-9.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister B.Battsetseg expressed her satisfaction with the successful development of the bilateral relations between Mongolia and Turkey in areas of politics, defense, cul¬ture and education. She then noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia would like to cooperate with Turkey to in¬tensify bilateral economic and trade ties in the future.
The dignitaries agreed to pay attention to organize events to promote participa¬tion of Mongolian and Turkish business¬people in the scope of the 8th meeting of an intergovernmental commission on trade and economy between Mongolia and Turkey, which is expected to take place this autumn and to focus to regular¬ize such measures.
Ahmet Yildiz, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister underlined that Mongolia and Tur¬key have broad possibilities to strengthen tourism relations and to bring the people of two countries closer to each other based on the similarities of the culture and traditions, in spite of the geographical dis¬tance.

AMBASSADOR Z.CHINZORIG PRESENTS COPY OF HIS LETTER OF CREDENTIALS


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 4, Z.Chintushig, Ambassador of Mongo¬lia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with residence in Kuwait, met Nizar Bin Obaid¬Madani, Minister of State for Foreign Af¬fairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and presented a copy of his letter of creden¬tials.
During the meeting, Ambassador Z.Chintushig conveyed greetings from Ts.Munkh-Orgil, Minister for Foreign Af¬fairs of Mongolia, to his Excellency Min¬ister and confirmed the willingness of the government of Mongolia for the develop¬ment and broadening of the bilateral re¬lations and cooperation with Saudi Ara¬bia. Nizar Bin ObaidMadani noted that he will be ready to collaborate at any time for the development of bilateral rela¬tions and wished success to Ambassador Z.Chintushig.
Also, Ambassador Z.Chintushig met MazenBatterji, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Jeddah and discussed ways of develop¬ment of economic cooperation between two countries, and exchanged views on foreign investment, in particular, organiz¬ing a visit of Saudi business delegation to Mongolia and exporting of meat from Mongolia.

MONGOLIA AND TUR¬KEY TO COOPERATE ON TRANSPORT DEVELOP¬MENT

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 09, today, B.Tsogtgerel, Deputy Minister of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia received Ahmet Yildiz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Repub¬lic of Turkey and Ahmet Yazal, Ambassa¬dor Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Mongolia.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dep¬uty Minister B.Tsogtgerel noted the signifi¬cance of transport sector in the bilateral economic cooperation of Mongolia and Turkey. Also, he praised the successful implementation of several projects funded by the Turkish International Cooperation Agency /TIKA/ for Mongolia. For instance, 46 km roads in Kharkhorin-Khushuu Tsaidam were built by the TIKA. More¬over, a new project to build 2.4 km paved roads from Kharkhorin soum of Uvurkhan¬gai aimag to the Erdenezuu Monastery is soon to commence. The sides agreed that corresponding ministries of Mongolia and Turkey are in need to collaborate closely as the devel¬opment of transport sector has a great significance in strengthening bilateral eco¬nomic ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, Deputy Minis¬ters both emphasized the possibility to increase the number of Turkish Airlines flights and to conduct flights with larger-sized airplanes. Also, they noted that Mon¬golia is paying attention to the increasing freight flows from Turkey to Mongolia through Russia, which makes a great deal of contribution to the development of land transport of Mongolia and Turkey.

MCC TARGETS TO IM¬PROVE WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION OF ULAANBAATAR

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 8, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold received Ms. Fatema Z. Sumar, the Regional Depu¬ty Vice President of the Millennium Chal¬lenge Corporation’s /MCC/ who is paying a working visit to Mongolia on May 8 to 9.
The MCC’s Investment Management Committee held its meeting on April 5 to make a decision to commence feasibility studies and detailed studies of projects to be implemented under the second MCC compact in with Mongolia. In this con¬nection, Ms. Fatema Z. Sumar arrived in Ulaanbaatar to meet with authorities of Ulaanbaatar city, including Mayor of Ulaanbaatar and line ministries exchang¬ing views on further cooperation.
The Investment Management Com¬mittee of the MCC decided to address the investment of the MCC second compact entirely to the water sector of Mongolia. Proposals of projects were finalized tar¬geting two issues, firstly to increase water supply of Ulaanbaatar city and secondly to improve water supply and sanitation of Ger district areas. A total of USD 10.5 mil¬lion will be spent for the projects within the framework of the MCC second compact, reports www.ulaanbaatar.mn

RED-LISTED TREE PLANTED IN DUNDGOBI PROVINCE

Dundgobi /MONTSAME/ A very rare ‘tooroi tree’ registered in the Red Book of Mongolia have been planted in Dund¬gobiaimag for the first time, with an initia¬tive of NAB Group director B.Amarsanaa. Though tooroi, one of the species of pop¬ulous tree is a Gobi desert plant, it does not grow in Dundgobiaimag.
“- We planted 60 tooroi trees. The tree needs a lot of watering. If these trees ac¬custom to soil and grows well, we will plant more next year” said Mr.B.Amarsanaa. The trees will grow edging foothill of the BorOvoo Hill, in a park of Mandalgobi city. The tree seedlings were brought from the Alxa League (Alshaaaimag) of Inner Mon¬golia, autonomous region of PRC, where a forest of tooroi grows, attracting hun¬dreds of tourists.
Root of tooroi tree spread deep under¬ground; reaches the underground water in depth of tens of meter and absorbs water in it, surviving in harsh dry climate. The Aspen type tree grows in couloirs, close to mountain spring, besides in the Gobi. It grows in Umnugobi, Khovd and Gobi-Altai aimags, covering small areas. Citizens of Saintsagaansoum supported the initiative and involved in the planting.
The Mandalgobi city Maintainance and Greenery Service and Environment and Tourism Office will be in charge of water¬ing the trees, paying attention to growing the new type of tree safe and vivacious.

MONGOL DAGUUR SPE¬CIALLY PROTECTED AREA MAY BE LISTED AS UNESCO WORLD HERI¬TAGE SITE


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ 2017 meeting of a working group of the Dauria International Protected Area (DIPA) was held on May 4-5 in Choibalsan city of Dor¬nod aimag, where the Mongol Daguur or Dauria the steppe and wetland region of Mongolia is located.
The meeting touched on the registra¬tion process of the Mongol Daguur Strictly Protected Area to the UNESCO World Heritage site and further policies to adhere to and reports of studies and promotion works concerning the region completed by the DIPA in 2016 as well as works planned this year and other issues. Officers of the departments in charge of specially pro¬tected areas of Mongolia and representa tives of Daursky Nature Reserve of Russia and Dalai Lake National Nature Reserve in Inner Mongolia, China.
About 13 surveys and studies about Mongolian marmot, migratory and water birds, mammals, gazelles and plants will be performed jointly or independently in the scope of the DIPA’s activities in 2017, the meeting concludes.
Vadim Kiriliuk, Head of the Daursky Nature Reserve of Russia said “We will organize the next meeting of DIPA in 2018 marking the 30th anniversary of the estab¬lishment of the Daursky State Nature Re¬serve of Russia”.

150 THOUSAND GOV¬ERNMENT SECURITIES TRADED


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Today, May 09, the primary market trading of Government securities was conducted and 150.000 units of securities were sup¬plied in accordance with the amount, an¬nounced by the Finance Ministry.
The Mongolian Stock Exchange re¬ceived orders to buy 232.929 units from 52-week Government securities with an¬nual interest rate of 14.670 per cent or valued at MNT20.3 billion and 175.452 units from 104-week Government securi¬ties with annual interest rate of 15.995 per cent or valued at MNT17.5 billion.

PROFESSIONAL BOXER N.TUGSTSOGT RECEIVES STATE CHAMPION TITLE


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “King- Tug” nicknamed N.Tugstsogt has recently claimed another win against his rival and was presented with the first championship belt.
With his five consecutive wins, N.Tugstsogt received a title of ‘State Champion’ and has not lost yet on the pro¬fessional boxing ring.
Mongolian professional boxer N.Tugstsogt is a silver medalist of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games and 2009 World Amateur Boxing Cham¬pionship. He entered into a professional boxing after his participation in the Asian Games 2014 held in Incheon, South Ko¬rea and has been training in the US ever since.

FOUR BOXERS WIN MED¬ALS AT ASIAN CHAMPI¬ONSHIP


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Interna¬tional Masters of Sports G.Gan-Erdene and B.Chinzorig made the final fight for gold in their respective weights yesterday, May 8, at the Asian Boxing Champion¬ships. They both claimed silver medals.
In men’s 49 kg, International Master of Sports G.Gan-Erdene fought with “Rio 2016” gold-medalist HasanboyDusmatov of Uzbekistan, and was defeated by 5:0. G.Gan-Erdene won bronze medal in 2015 Asian Championship.
The army world champion B.Chinzorig’s rival in the final fight was with HoldarovIk¬boljon, also from the host country Uzbeki¬stan. The fight ended with 5:0 score, as well. This silver medal is the first medal for B.Chinzorig at the continental champion¬ship.
State Honored Athlete, Rio 2016’s bronze-medalist D.Otgondalai (60kg) and International Master of Sports B.Tuvshinbat (69kg) both secured bronze medals.
Thus, these Mongolian boxers earned their entry to the world championships.

MOUNTAINEER D.OTGONKHUU WINS RED FOX ELBRUS RACE


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolian mountaineer D.Otgonkhuu gained a gold medal from the international Red Fox El¬brus Race 2017, by mountain running to the top of the Mount Elbrus /5642 meter/ for 2 hours, 59 minutes and 13 seconds. The annual international race was held on the Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe, from May 1 to 5.
D.Otgonkhuu, who is a member of the UB Hiking Club based in Ulaanbaatar, be¬come the first mountaineer from Mongolia to win in the skyrunning category of the Red Fox Elbrus Race and set a new re¬cord of Mongolia. He participated in the race for the fifth time.
The Red Fox Elbrus Race was attend¬ed by 350 mountaineers from 12 coun¬tries.

SUMMER UNIVERSIADE INVITES E.MUNKHBILEGT AS REFEREE


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ One of the first-rate table tennis referees in Mongo¬lia E.Munkhbilegt was invited to act as a referee in the XXIX Summer Universiade, which is scheduled to take place in Taipei city in Taiwan between August 19 and 30, 2017.
E.Munkhbileg gained great experi¬ence by evaluating over 18 international tournaments, acting as a referee twice in the World Championship, twice in the Universiade, twice in the Junior Olympic Games, once in the Olympic Qualifying Tournamend and in over 10 series of tour¬naments of the International Table Tennis Federation. Also, he assisted the Mongo¬lian team in the Rio Olympic Games 2016. The table tennis competition of the XXIX Summer Universiade will take place from August 22 to 29.
Aside from E.Munkhbileg, referees from Argentina, Canada, Poland, Serbia, China, Thailand and India will be judging the table tennis tournament. This will be his third time as a referee in the Universi¬ade.

MONGOLIAN WRES¬TLERS HEAD TO ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “Asian Championship 2017”, a continental championship is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India between May 10 and 14. Organized by the Asian Associated Wrestling Committee, the tournament will take place in 3 categories of Freestyle Se¬niors (in 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, 86 and 97 kg weight range), Greco-Roman (in 59, 66, 71, 75, 80 and 85 kg weight range) and Women’s wrestling Seniors (in 48, 53, 55, 58, 60, 63, 69 and 75 kg weight range).
Under the coaching of B.Battulga, Ts.Bayarsaikhan, A.Tsedensodnom, IM B.Batzorig and U.Uuganbayar, Mongo¬lian athletes, namely Z.Zanabazar (57kg), T.Tulga (61kg), B.Naranbold (65kg), D.Khatanbaatar (70kg), G.Turbold (74kg), State Honored Athlete P.Unurbat (86kg), U.Batzul (97kg) and N.Zolboo (125kg) departed the country to participate in the wrestling tournament on May 8.
Meanwhile, in the ‘Women’s wrestling Seniors’ category, E.Narangerel (48kg), State Honored Athlete D.Otgontsetseg (53kg), E.Davaachimeg (55kg), E.Gantuya (58kg), B.Shoovdor (60kg), State Hon¬ored Athlete S.Battsetseg (63kg), Sh.Tumentsetseg (69kg) and G.Urtnasan (75kg) will be participating from Mongolia.
As of now, Mongolia is ranked 8th by the total medal count in the tournament with 152 medals, consisting of 21 gold, 56 silver and 75 bronze medals.

MONGOLIAN TEAM WINS THIRD PLACE IN ASIAN DRAUGHTS CHAMPION¬SHIP


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Asian Draughts Championship 2017 took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan between April 15 and 28. From among the players of over 10 countries such as China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Japan, Turkmeni¬stan and Lebanon, Mongolians won 34 medals, including 13 gold, 13 silver and 8 bronze medals.
A total 24 draughts players participat¬ed from Mongolia and half of the partici¬pants were around the age of 8 to 16. By the rankings, Uzbekistan was at the first place, China was at second and Mongo¬lia was at third.
Namely, Draughts Master P.Erkhembileg, fourth grader of School number 97 of Ulaanbaatar, won 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals in the U11 (under 11) age range. Winning the first place in the Classic-100, Blitz-100 and Rapid-100 categories, P.Erkhembileg acquired the FMJD Master (MF) title. He also won third place in the Rapid-64 cat¬egory and participated in the team tour¬nament of U14 age range, bringing the silver medal to the team.
